‘Yoga is the Journey of the self, through the self, to the self’

The Bhagavad Gita

My Yoga journey started in 1993, not long after returning from a trip to Nepal. I was introduced to Iyengar yoga by a work colleague, both of us new to yoga we tentatively started a once a week practise. Our practise grew over time as the teacher brought in guest teachers and offered week long workshops. I found the health benefits amazing, having had a bike accident several years previously, I found the release in scar tissue bringing strength and suppleness back to my body. I really loved my Yoga practise.

In 2004 I was made redundant and I started my business working as a Therapist, my Yoga practise was still with me, though my working life was changing. I started working from a Yoga and therapy centre in Edinburgh, commuting from Glasgow which was home at that time. I found my energy based spiritual practise through practising Yoga and learning Reiki.

In 2007 I moved back home to Edinburgh, where a friend told me about Dru Yoga, a very meditative and energy based Yoga. I was intrigued and searched out a teacher nearby. I practised with her for a few months before I started a Dru Yoga Teacher training course.

In 2011 I started teaching Yoga, I had started running a Therapy and Yoga centre in the West End and I was loving teaching Yoga but was feeling that Dru wasn’t really for me, I wanted a stronger more dynamic practise, as I had had before. A friend told me about an intensive Ashtanga teacher training course that was being run that summer and I decided to sign up for that.

In 2016 I fell in love with Ashtanga and started bring that dynamic energy into my yoga classes.

In 2021 just as we were coming out of Lockdown, I decided to do a Yin yoga teacher training. A different style of yoga again but full of amazing physical and mental benefits.

So now I teach Yoga and I bring with me all of the knowledge, from all that I have learned from my amazing teachers over the past 30+ years.

‘The study of Asana is not about mastering posture, it’s about using posture to understand and transform yourself.’
